Evie Porter has everything a nice, Southern girl could a perfect, doting boyfriend, a house with a white picket fence and a garden, a fancy group of friends。 The only catch: Evie Porter doesn’t exist。

The identity comes first: Evie Porter。 Once she’s given a name and location by her mysterious boss Mr。 Smith, she learns everything there is to know about the town and the people in it。 Then the mark: Ryan Sumner。 The last piece of the puzzle is the job。

Evie isn’t privy to Mr。 Smith’s real identity, but she knows this job will be different。 Ryan has gotten under her skin, and she’s starting to envision a different sort of life for herself。 But Evie can’t make any mistakes--especially after what happened last time。

First Lie Wins was a great book to kick off the new year。 It’s an incredibly complex, twisty, well written story, that’ll have you hooked until the end。 I highly recommend this story if you like suspense and morally ambiguous characters。 I listened to the audiobook which was well done by the narrator。 I listened at 1。75x speed (which is my normal speed for audiobooks)。

One of my last thrillers of 2023, First Lie Wins, solidified itself in my ✨2023 Top 5 Thriller Books✨ But lucky for you, First Lie Wins just released this week! Best advice: Go in blind! Trust me! But if you must know what I loved: ✨Morally Gray Character who you love: Evie Porter is sympathetic, relatable, smart, and resilient。 You just want her to win。 Excellent character development for a plot-driven story。 ✨Nefarious Charlie's Angels vibe with Evie being the only Angel: secret mission/jobs w One of my last thrillers of 2023, First Lie Wins, solidified itself in my ✨2023 Top 5 Thriller Books✨ But lucky for you, First Lie Wins just released this week! First Lie Wins is one of the most clever cat-and-mouse tropes I’ve ever read! With an intensely fast-paced plot, the twists and turns keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end。 Everything I predicted…wrong, making this book extremely entertaining。 If you love thrillers, add this to your TBR now! 。。。more

More like 3 1/2 rounded up to a 4。 I devoured this one, but I got to a point where I started to see what was coming and it felt a little drawn out。 It was a good book though。

Evie lies。 Ryan lies。 Everyone has something to hide。 Evie is a con artist working for the notorious Mr。 Smith。 Evie does her “jobs” as instructed。 A fast mysterious story with a lot of twists and turns。 Listened to audio: excellent delivery。

Richelle Robinson

Fun fast paced book with lots of good twists! Could have done without the Black guy playing football stereotype, but overall I did enjoy the story。 I will definitely check out more books by this author in the future。

FIRST LIE WINS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a crazy thriller with a flawlessly planned storyline to kick off 2024。 There were so many unexpected twists in this one, it keeps you guessing the entire time。 It’s one of those books you want to go back and read a second time now that you’ve figured out the big secret。 This is one I don’t want to say too much about or give anything away。 I loved the story, the twists, and how everything resolved… my only complaint is that it felt like it moved a little bit slow FIRST LIE WINS ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was a crazy thriller with a flawlessly planned storyline to kick off 2024。 There were so many unexpected twists in this one, it keeps you guessing the entire time。 It’s one of those books you want to go back and read a second time now that you’ve figured out the big secret。 This is one I don’t want to say too much about or give anything away。 I loved the story, the twists, and how everything resolved… my only complaint is that it felt like it moved a little bit slow at times。 Evie is a con-artist that works for a man named, “Mr。Smith。” He communicates with her via postal boxes where he gives her assignments and instructions。 Her last assignment, however, ends up being a little bit different than the others。 Perfect if you like: •Slow burn mystery。 •Who can you trust?! •Unexpected twists。Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Spice: 🌶️Mood: 🍿🍷🚪: implied intimacy ⚠️: explicit language。 。。。more

This book was great。 Full of twists and turns and surprises。 Loved the story being told。 This is the second book I have read from Reese's Book Club。 I have thoroughly enjoyed both。 I was a long-time member of Oprah's Book Club and she never seemed to fail in her choices。 Looks like I will be paying closer attention to Reese's Book Club selections in the future。 This book was great。 Full of twists and turns and surprises。 Loved the story being told。 This is the second book I have read from Reese's Book Club。 I have thoroughly enjoyed both。 I was a long-time member of Oprah's Book Club and she never seemed to fail in her choices。 Looks like I will be paying closer attention to Reese's Book Club selections in the future。 。。。more

This book was a terrific fun cat and mouse thriller。 If anyone watched the show Imposters, it reminded me so much of that。 I couldn’t put this one down。

Oh wow 🤯Talk about mind blowing。 I love a story that just keeps you guessing, and asking more questions than you can answer。Twisty, and suspenseful all in one。 Trust no-one in this story and just go along for the ride。The main character is smart, clued up and perfect。 But, who the heck is she? And more importantly who on earth is Mr Smith。 Mr Smith such a generic name, yet he got on my nerves because I just didn't know enough about him。The plotline is cleverly plotted out, and is mind bending 🤯T Oh wow 🤯Talk about mind blowing。 I love a story that just keeps you guessing, and asking more questions than you can answer。Twisty, and suspenseful all in one。 Trust no-one in this story and just go along for the ride。The main character is smart, clued up and perfect。 But, who the heck is she? This unreliable narrator, cat-and-mouse psychological thriller played games with me。 I thought I had it figured out right down to each detail。 BOY WAS I WRONG! It blindsided me and I wasn't the same。 Evie Porter has the perfect life with Ryan Sumner, her latest boyfriend。 She grew up in a small town in North Carolina and is now living in Louisiana working at an art gallery。 The problem: Evie Porter isn't real。 She works for someone that goes by Mr。 Smith and she has no idea how many other people work for him。 She receives her instructions as she's on the job - little by little。 At times, it's unsettling, but mostly she loves the thrill of the unknown adventure。 She's good at this, even though she made some mistakes on her last job。 She's got to get it right this time if she wants to stay alive 。 Her mark is Ryan Sumner。 It's going well until she begins to fall into the rhythm of their life together。 This is an unexpected issue。 Can she complete this assignment appearing faithful to him? Can she stay on top of her game enough to cover all potential obstacles and doubts that will arise? She's got to stay a step ahead。 The first lie wins。This novel takes the reader on a non-linear timeline to showcase Evie Porter's past and present assignments for this boss of hers, Mr。 Smith。 I was completely into each twist, turn, and surprise handed to me。 I think I even shouted "NO WAY" at one point。 I was floored at every plot twist。 There were many。 The storyline leaves no plot holes nor does it have you endure overly descriptive scenes。 Ashley Elston certainly made some sneaky choices in her writing。 It was a quick read and fast paced。 The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because of the ending。 I didn't like the narrator, but I was completely involved in her life。 。。。more

An intriguing book, different from my usual reads and plenty of plot twists along the way。 It took me a while to get into what was going on but once I did I was hooked! I loved the characters and without giving away any spoilers, there were quite a few shockers along the way。 A must read!

4。5 stars I've just finished devouring "First Lie Wins" by Ashley Elston, and all I can say it’s that the hype is absolutely justified。 From the moment I picked up the book, I was captivated by it。 The narrative begins at a party, where our protagonist, Evie Porter, encounters a stranger who not only bears an uncanny resemblance but also shares her name。 The premise alone intrigued me, and as the story unfolded, I found myself immersed in a thrilling rollercoaster of deception and suspense。Evie P 4。5 stars I've just finished devouring "First Lie Wins" by Ashley Elston, and all I can say it’s that the hype is absolutely justified。 From the moment I picked up the book, I was captivated by it。 The narrative begins at a party, where our protagonist, Evie Porter, encounters a stranger who not only bears an uncanny resemblance but also shares her name。 The premise alone intrigued me, and as the story unfolded, I found myself immersed in a thrilling rollercoaster of deception and suspense。Evie Porter, a character who seemingly has it all – a devoted boyfriend, a picturesque house, and a lively group of friends – is, in fact, a carefully constructed facade。 Her entire existence is a lie, meticulously crafted by an enigmatic employer。 The layers of identity, location, and the chosen mark, Ryan Sumner, add complexity to the plot, keeping me on the edge of my seat。What sets this novel apart is the psychological depth woven into the narrative。 As Evie becomes entangled in her latest job, the lines between her fabricated life and her true self blur。 The storytelling is masterful, making it impossible for me to predict the twists that I found in the final chapters。The culmination of the story left me reeling, and I couldn't shake off the impact of the unexpected revelations。 Elston skillfully unravels a tale that keeps you guessing until the very end。 I must admit; I hadn't read anything quite like this before。After seeing this book featured in the Resee book club, I couldn't resist giving it a go。 The rave reviews I found were spot-on,and it lived up to the expectations。 If you're looking for a must-read thriller that will keep you hooked from the first chapter, look no further。 Ashley Elston has crafted a tale of lies, intrigue, and unexpected twists that will leave you craving more。Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy through NetGalley, opinions are my own。 。。。more
